Physiotherapy means physiotherapeutic system of medicine which includes examination, treatment, advice and instructions to any person preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement dysfunction, bodily malfunction, physical disorder, disability, healing and pain from trauma and disease, physical and mental conditions using physical agents including exercise, mobilization, manipulation, mechanical and electrotherapy, activity and devices or diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

However, various other health professionals (e.g., Chiropractic, Osteopathy) use some physical therapeutic methods. A program of physical therapy will typically involve caregivers.

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that is primarily concerned with remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. Physical therapists can help people at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Physical therapists help people maximize their quality of life, looking at physical, psychological, emotional and social wellbeing. They work in the health spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation. Physical therapists can practice independently of other health care/service providers and also within interdisciplinary rehabilitation/habilitation programmes in a wide variety of settings.

Department runs two regular courses i.e., Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy (BPT) and Masters in Physiotherapy (MPT) in four specializations i.e., Musculoskeletal, Neuro-physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary and Sports Physiotherapy. The department is among one of those few universities of India that offer Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Physiotherapy.

The aim of the department is to provide meaningful education, leadership in physiotherapy innovation for the health profession growth of the country and to conduct original research of the highest standard. Our Department runs undergraduate & post graduate programmes in Physiotherapy with an intake of 100 students in BPT and 20 students in MPT. Most of the passed-out students are well placed in hospitals in India and abroad. A few are pursuing their research career at different institutes/universities

The institute has been set up with the following objective:

  1. To impart medical education to average class of population.
  2. To provide cost effective medical care to the underprivileged class.
  3. To train medical students & trainee doctors in a way so that they are competent in making accurate clinical diagnosis and have the zeal to serve the public.
  4. To cater physiotherapy education and reach out to the unreached.
  5. To acquire adequate knowledge of the basic medical subjects in the practice of Physiotherapy.
  6. Serve as responsible members in the professional community and are willing and able to assume leadership roles in the communities they serve.
  7. To inculcate moral and ethical values in students.
  8. To prepare physiotherapist to meet the health care needs of the society.
  9. To develop creative thinking and scientific interest among students.
  10. To prepare our graduates to exercise leadership for making a contribution in their respective disciplines.
  11. To establish and maintain this institution as a center of excellence in physiotherapy education.
  12. To provide administrative, academic and support services that create an environment conducive to teaching, learning and student success.
  13. To set high standards of comprehensive professional education by developing the intellectual strength of students and guiding them towards professional excellence.
  14. Identify researchable problems, advocate and participate in research and incorporate research finding into clinical practice.
  15. To produce graduates of international standards committed to professionalism.

  1. The overall objective of the physiotherapy Program is to prepare students to practice state of the art physical therapy. To do this, students must become licensed in their legal jurisdiction. The educational goals of the curriculum reflect the knowledge, skills and behaviors expected of program graduates. The graduates of the Integral University physiotherapy program will be expected to:
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical basis of physiotherapy.
  3. Demonstrate clinical competency in evaluation, treatment planning and implementation.
  4. Integrate knowledge of basic sciences and physiotherapy in order to modify treatment approaches that reflect the breadth and scope of physiotherapy practice.
  5. Integrate the use of basic principles of research in critical analysis of concepts and findings generated by self and others.
  6. Actively recognize the rights and dignity of individuals in planning and administering programs of care.
  7. Identify with and contribute to the aims and ideals of the profession.
  8. Function as competent physical therapists in any health care setting.
  9. Demonstrate command of knowledge which is necessary to function as an independent problem solver and learner in the practice environment.
  10. Practice in an ethical and legal manner.
