As it is said by P.T.Barnum, “Literature is the most interesting and significant expressions of humanity”, it presents the humanity with the possibility of being talked and heard. Bachelor of Arts in English is a three years duration program of six semesters in the Department of Languages, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This program extends the scope for our students because it can produce a wide range of skills that are lucrative to a variety of career options. This course is particularly designed to enhance three essential qualities: Critical Reading, Critical Writing and Critical Thinking. Critical reading prepares our students for comprehensibility that is profound and unachievable by the ordinary eyes. To manifest one’s ideas through critical writing is another skill earnestly required in a number of professional spheres and equally important- critical thinking will prepare them for innovation, inventions and creativity. Students will also be taught analytical skills and research skills. The courses in this program provide a wide area of studies ranging from the essential National Literatures like British Literature, American Literature, Indian writing in English to the newly emerging ones like Popular Literature, Women’s Writing. All of these courses are meant to inculcate intellectual inquiry regarding history, society, politics, morality, psychology, language and many other important areas of human world. After obtaining the degree of B.A. Hons in English, students may pursue higher education particularly in MA English or in other subjects as well. Apart from this, the aforementioned skills developed during these three years will enable our students to explore civil services, journalism, content creation based jobs, careers related to human resources with outmost efficiency.
