As populations and housing costs continue to increase, many families and students of the community are struggling to find affordable places to live. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Pradhan Mantri Grameen Awas Yojana - a housing scheme which aims at providing affordable houses to the rural poor by 2022. "We want every Indian to have a house by 2022," Modi said. This student-led awareness program tackles the increasing unaffordability and inaccessibility of housing in the local community. The campaign aimed to decrease the rent of most campus accommodation to a student defined definition of affordable so that all people wishing to go to university/institution can do so despite their socio-economic background and to ensure that the designs are truly sustainable.

Students discussed in length with the rural community about the importance of affordable housing. A lack of affordable housing can impact the academic, health and well-being of students, as they face not only a high level of stress, but also a socio-economic burden that can further marginalize them & reproduce social hierarchies & class gender racialized or ageist divides. The students also visited various houses in the village to create awareness about the affordable housing practices.
