The Faculty of Education, Integral University organized a guest lecture titled “Emotional Intelligence as a Tool for Effective Classroom Discipline and Positive Behavior” on 24th February 2026 at Academic Block-W, Phase-II. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing understanding among future educators regarding the importance of emotional intelligence in effective classroom management and positive student behavior.
The lecture witnessed active participation from 75 attendees, including students, research scholars, and faculty members of the Department of Education. The event commenced with the formal welcome of the resource person, Dr. Paul Mathew, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow. Dr. Azkiya Waris, In-charge Head, Department of Education, welcomed the guest and highlighted the significance of emotional intelligence in contemporary teaching-learning environments and holistic teacher education.
During the technical session, Dr. Paul Mathew delivered an insightful presentation on emotional intelligence as a critical competency for teachers in maintaining classroom discipline and fostering supportive learning environments. He explained emotional intelligence as the ability to recognize, understand, and manage one’s own emotions while responding empathetically to others. The session emphasized the role of empathy, self-regulation, communication, and social interaction in ensuring effective classroom management.
The speaker also discussed practical strategies for addressing disruptive behavior, de-escalating conflicts, and creating inclusive classroom environments that encourage student engagement through positive reinforcement rather than punitive measures. Through interactive discussions and real-life examples, participants gained valuable insights into how emotionally intelligent educators can establish trust, model calm behavior, and create productive learning spaces.
An engaging question-and-answer session followed, during which participants discussed concerns related to handling aggressive behavior, managing emotional stress among teachers, and integrating emotional intelligence training into teacher education programmes. Dr. Mathew addressed the queries comprehensively and shared practical reflective strategies that educators can implement in everyday classroom situations.
Towards the conclusion of the programme, Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Lodi, Dean, Faculty of Education, presented a memento to Dr. Paul Mathew in appreciation of his valuable academic contribution. In his closing remarks, Prof. Lodi appreciated the resource person’s practical and insightful approach and encouraged participants to incorporate emotional intelligence into their professional practices for improved student outcomes and classroom harmony.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Manisha Singh, Event Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Department of Education, who expressed gratitude to the University management, Dean, faculty members, students, research scholars, and organizing team for the successful conduct of the programme. The event was efficiently coordinated with the support of student coordinators Ms. Ayushi Shukla and Ms. Jasmine Khan, students of B.Ed. IV Semester.
The guest lecture concluded successfully on a positive and reflective note, reinforcing the importance of emotional intelligence as an essential component of effective teaching, classroom discipline, and positive behavioral support.
