Integral Hospital, Lucknow, achieves a significant medical milestone
With successful treatment of a rare neurological condition in a newborn, Integral Hospital, Lucknow, has once again proven its excellence in advanced healthcare.
The hospital successfully performed a complex surgery on a one-day-old newborn diagnosed with Lumbosacral Myelomeningocele (LS-MMC) — a rare congenital defect affecting the spine and brain.
The baby was born under the care of senior Gynaecologist Dr. Suraiya and was immediately shifted to the NICU. Under the leadership of Senior Paediatric Surgeon Dr. Rajat Kumar Singh, a comprehensive medical evaluation was conducted, including blood tests and MRI scans of the brain and spine. The diagnosis confirmed LS-MMC — a condition where the brain’s nerves protrude outside the spinal column, posing a serious risk of infection and neurological impairment.
Given the severity, an emergency surgical plan was initiated. Under the anaesthesia team led by Dr. Kapil, Dr. Rajat Kumar Singh successfully performed LS-MMC excision and dura repair with utmost precision, carefully handling the exposed nerves during the procedure.
The surgery was completed at a nominal cost, reaffirming Integral Hospital’s commitment to delivering quality, affordable healthcare. Remarkably, within 24 hours, the newborn began breastfeeding and exhibited normal leg movement — a promising sign of successful neurological recovery.
Integral Hospital continues to set benchmarks in advanced medical care, driven by expert teams and compassionate service.
