The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The 17 SDGs are well integrated— they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others and that development must balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Countries have committed to prioritizing progress for those who are most outlying. These SDGs are structured to end poverty, hunger, AIDS, and discrimination against women and girls. Creativity, know-how, technology, and financial resources from all of society are necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.
The best part of these goals is that everyone can contribute and the tiniest contribution can make a big difference to our world. With the motto "SDGs For Everyone" the Department of Computer Application has taken another remarkable initiative by organizing "SDG Geek 2022" which started on 26th July 2022 from 10:00 am onwards. It was a short knowledge quiz comprising 20 questions covering all 17 SDGs and their impacts to spread awareness and educate everyone on the importance of implementing SDGs in academia, research, industry, and daily lives. The online quiz aimed to enhance basic knowledge of the SDGs, and 274 participants showed active and enthusiastic participation. The responses showed good results as 25 participants scored 100% and 218 participants scored more than 50%. All the participants received e-Certificates upon the successful completion of the quiz and they also took an oath to contribute to the successful implementation of Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was well coordinated by Ms. Nashra Javed, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Application, and Ms. Eram Fatima Siddiqui, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Application.
