SYRIA & TURKEY DONATION DRIVE 2023
On 6th February 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit southern Turkey near the northern border of Syria. It was devastating to know that the earthquakes and underlying vulnerabilities resulted in the deaths of at least 56,000 people in Turkey and Syria. The calamity victimized millions of people who have been rendered homeless. Integral University extended a helping hand to both countries and the Directorate of International Affairs (DIA) in association with Integral University Social Services (IUSS) took the responsibility to help the earthquake victims for the sake of humanity and mankind. The power to better the lives of others is considered a privilege. It comes with a feeling of contentment and gratitude as well. In addition to reinforcing our ideals, acting on these intense sentiments of responsibility gives us a sense that our actions are consistent with what we believe. Community work facilitates and fosters partnerships within communities and enhances opportunities for students' capacity-building at the regional level to achieve Social Development Goals.
The donation drive was successfully held from 1st March 2023 till 3rd March 2023. Donation booths were set up at various locations inside the campus to raise awareness among everyone and collection of funds. Hon’ble Founder and Chancellor Prof. S.W. Akhtar has announced 100% scholarship schemes for the affected students from Syria and Turkey. The donation drive was an initiative of Mr. Syed Adnan Akhtar, Executive Director, DIA, who officially handed over the proceeds of the donation drive to H.E. Firat Sunel, Ambassador, Embassy of Turkey. The Ambassador was grateful to Integral University's contribution towards humankind, and generous support to the affected people of Turkey.
The donation drive was led by Prof. Monowar Alam Khalid, Dean, Students' Welfare, under the mentorship of Mr. Shariq Nafees, Senior Manager, DIA, and Ms. Nashra Javed, Assistant Manager, IUSS. Over 10 volunteers played an instrumental role in making the donation drive impactful and effective. The funds collected through donation drive sent to the Embassy of Turkey in New Delhi. The DIA is currently in communication with the Syrian Embassy to transfer the proceeds of the donation drive to the Embassy. We hope to carry on these needful donation drives with the same zeal for spreading kindness and serving humanity.
