Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, Lucknow celebrated World Environment Day online on 5th June 2021, which was enthusiastically registered by 534 students. World Environment Day is celebrated globally to remind us to show our commitment towards conservation of environment. The theme given by the United Nations for this year’s World Environment Day was “Ecosystem and Restoration”, a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea. It has become much more relevant in view of the current pandemics faced by the world, origin of which is believed to be mishandling of our wild fauna, flora and its habitat. By decreasing the area of natural habitat for animals, we have generated an ideal environment for pathogens – including corona viruses – to spread. The fact remains that only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, offset the climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity.
On this occasion, the Department of Environmental Science organized a webinar which was anchored by Dr Rahila Rahman Khan, where she gave the brief introduction about the program. Prof Monowar Alam Khalid, Head, Department of Environmental Science introduced the eminent speaker Dr. Indu K. Murthy, from the Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bengaluru. She delivered an interesting lecture on the theme topic “Ecological Restoration of Forest Ecosystems”, where she shared her experiences on climate change and its restoration along with the detailed presentation about the topic. The presentation was very informative and knowledgeable, which gave tips on how we can take small steps to restore the ecosystem.
Students from many renowned institutions like Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal, Dr. Hari Singh Gaur Central University, Seshadripuram Institute of Commerce and Management, Bengaluru City University, CSTEP Banglore etc. participated in the program.
