The programme was conducted with the objective of spreading awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and promoting acceptance, inclusion, and support for autistic individuals in society.

World Autism Awareness Day, observed globally every year on April 2 and established by the United Nations in 2007, emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal rights, dignity, and opportunities for individuals with autism. The event highlighted the need for early diagnosis, timely intervention, removal of social barriers, and the dissemination of scientifically accurate information to combat myths and misconceptions associated with autism.

The awareness programme was organized under the supervision of the Academic Board, Department of Psychiatry, IIMSR. Dr. N.K. Kanaujiya served as the Resource Person and delivered an informative awareness talk for MBBS students and M.Sc. Clinical Psychology students. During the session, the speaker discussed the significance of neurodiversity, the importance of inclusive healthcare and education, and the role of society in supporting autistic individuals to lead meaningful and independent lives.

A total of 55 students, including 34 male and 21 female students, along with 6 faculty members, actively participated in the programme. The event successfully created awareness among participants regarding autism and reinforced the importance of empathy, acceptance, and social inclusion.

The programme also reflected the University’s commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). The celebration concluded successfully with active engagement from students and faculty members, contributing towards a more informed and inclusive society.
