Laboratory Safety

Integral University since its inception has been focused on the overall development and nurturing of students and society. The university has taken some conscious efforts to improve not only the quality of education but also contributed significantly to the sustainable development of the society and environment as a whole. Since the institution has a well-established Science faculty where students are leaning to implement the theoretical principles through practical classes which are conducted in well-equipped laboratories and thereby making it equally pertinent to safely dispose and manage laboratory waste, particularly hazardous chemical waste for efficient environmental and human health protection. Chemicals used in laboratories may be corrosive, flammable, toxic or explosive. Many of them may be even carcinogens, teratogens or irritants and. hence, they need to be safely disposed of, to avert any hazardous effect on the flora and fauna.

Keeping this perspective in mind, the University has proposed to establish a committee which will look after the whole process of chemical waste management, including its collection, categorization, disposal and management. The committee is instituted to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly for the promotion of Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). The committee will also work as per the directives of NAAC for waste management falling under criterion 7.
