Solar Rooftop PV Systems

Integral University is committed to a low-carbon, environmentally responsible campus, with a declared goal of carbon neutrality by 2047 — aligned with India's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and a net-zero emission country by 2070.

As a cornerstone of this commitment, the University has progressively scaled its rooftop Solar Photovoltaic infrastructure to a 1.45 MW installed capacity, meeting around 30.7% of the campus's annual electricity demand from renewable sources.

The Solar Development Cell has been established to steward this transition — planning, operating, monitoring, and advancing solar energy use across the campus, and integrating it with the University's wider sustainability, research, and education initiatives.

System Overview

In tune with international trend, Integral University has installed 1.45 MWp Rooftop Grid Interactive Solar Power Plant as per Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) guidelines & specifications. For SPV grid interactive system, available roof area on the building is used for setting up solar PV plants. Rooftop solar PV systems are easy to install & maintain, have long life and are modular in nature. The excess unused electricity generated here is fed back to transmission grid. Apart from approx. 30% revenue saving, the plant avoids around 1000 tons of carbon dioxide annually and reduces emissions from grid power and backup diesel generators.

Plant Specifications

12 rooftop installations across academic blocks, medical facilities, hostels, library, and residential buildings using polycrystalline PV panels with fixed tilt angles of 10° to 15°. Systems connected via grid-interactive inverters from Schneider and Delta.

Generation & Impact

The combined 1.45 MWp plant generates over 1,400 MWh annually, offsetting approximately 30% of campus electricity consumption and avoiding ~1,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

Objectives of the Solar Development Cell

The Solar Development Cell advances Integral University's transition to clean energy and its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 4 (Quality Education). The Cell pursues the following objectives:

1 · Expand Renewable Capacity

Scale on-campus solar generation from the current 1.45 MW installed base, with a target of meeting at least 50% of the University's annual electricity demand through renewable sources, supported by rooftop PV expansion, solar street lighting, solar water heating, and solar-powered irrigation.

2 · Drive Carbon Reduction

Contribute to the University's carbon neutrality roadmap for 2047 by displacing grid electricity and diesel-generator use, monitoring Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, and improving the renewable share of total consumption year over year.

3 · Monitor & Audit Performance

Operate smart metering, net-metering, and periodic energy audits of installed systems; track generation, performance ratio, and degradation across all rooftop installations to ensure efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement.

4 · Enable Research & Innovation

Use campus installations as living laboratories for research on PV performance, degradation, hybrid renewable systems, and energy management under Indian climatic conditions; support faculty and scholars in publishing, patents, and technology development.

5 · Strengthen Education & Training

Integrate solar and renewable-energy content into engineering and science curricula, offer skill-development programmes, student projects, and internships, and build workforce capacity for India's growing clean-energy sector.

6 · Community Outreach & Advisory

Offer consultancy on solar system design, feasibility, and auditing to institutions and industry, and conduct awareness drives on energy conservation, responsible consumption, and the benefits of rooftop solar for communities around the campus.
