The Department of Biochemistry was established in the year 2011 as one of the pre-clinical departments in IIMS&R. The Department is run by experienced and dedicated faculty whose involvement is not only limited to teaching and research but also in providing diagnostic laboratory services to outpatients and inpatients. The department is involved in Undergraduate teaching for medical students and postgraduate training in MD Biochemistry. About 30 papers in peer reviewed national and international journals of repute have been published since the inception of the department. The goal of the department is to offer excellent standard in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching; to encourage student participation in self-directed, experiential learning, conferences and research activities; to conduct basic, clinical and biomedical research and to provide good patient care.

The department comprises of an Undergraduate Laboratory, Research laboratory, and the Central Research Laboratory (currently under the supervision of the department), which is equipped with instruments like Thermocycler, Gel Doc System, ELISA plate reader, cooling centrifuge, microcentrifuge and -800 C deep freezer to name a few. The Departmental Library boasts of a large collection of books & several National and International Journals of repute. The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory, a part of Centralized laboratory offers round the clock services, possesses state of the art lab facility and experienced technical staff. The laboratory is equipped with instruments like Siemens Dimensions RXL Autoanalyzer, Mini Vidas hormone Analyzer, Semi-Autoanalyzer, ABG analyzer and Nephelometer.
