Department of Environmental Science, Integral University, Lucknow observed World Wildlife Day on 3rd March,
2021. The 3rd of March every year since 2013 is designated to be celebrated as World Wildlife Day as
proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of this year’s World Wildlife Day, as
given by United Nations was “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet”. It seeks to shed
light on the links between the state of our planet’s forests and woodlands and the preservation of the
millions of livelihoods that depend directly on them with a particular attention to the traditional
knowledge of the communities who have managed forest ecosystems and its wildlife for centuries.
Covering nearly a third of the planet’s land surface, forests and woodlands are key pillars of human
livelihoods and their well-being.
The Chief Guest and Key Note Speaker of the function was Dr. Rupak De, IFS, Former PCCF and Head–UP Task Force, UP Forest Department. The Program was attended by Prof. Syed Aqeel Ahmad, Head Civil Engineering Department & Director, HRDC, Integral University, Prof. Monowar Alam Khalid, Dean, Students’ Welfare & Head, Department of Environmental Science along with the faculty members and students from the University.
The program anchored by Dr. Syed Saima. The event was started with the welcome note and brief introduction of Chief Guest Dr. Rupak De by Prof. M. A. Khalid. Dr. Rupak De delivered an interesting lecture on “Wild Life Bird Photography” and gave excellent tips to students in wildlife photography. It was followed by informative lecture delivered by Prof. M. A. Khalid on the theme topic “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet- Few Case Studies”, in which he gave interesting facts about forests and shared his experiences of working with forest villagers in various National Parks and Sanctuaries in West Bengal, Assam, Nepal etc. At the end of the program, a documentary on “Reptiles of Lucknow Zoo”, which was prepared by Mr. Devrat Singh (B.Sc Final Year Student) of the Department of Environmental Science, was shown to the audience, which was highly appreciated. The Chief Guest distributed the Certificates for quiz competition to the winners. The Program concluded with the Vote of Thanks given by Dr. Amina Jafri.
