A webinar on “Physical and Mental Challenges Faced by Women Leaders” on the occasion of International Women’s Day

A Webinar was organized on 8th March 2021 by Women’s Study Centre in association with Women Grievance Cell, & IIMS&R, Integral University, Lucknow. The theme for the event was “Physical and Mental Challenges Faced by Women Leaders”.

International Women's Day is a global day celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socio-economic achievements of women. It is also a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women. The purpose of the day is to uphold women's achievements, recognize challenges, and focus greater attention on women's rights and gender equality. On this Women's Day in 2021, the theme was “ChooseToChallenge”.

The program started with the address by Mrs. Azra Waseem, Director, Integral International School, Lucknow. Her deliberation was full of encouragement and motivation for the entire women fraternity. She appreciated and acknowledged the role of women within and outside the confines of home. She further stated that the contribution of women in the fields of Sports, Education, Science, and Technology are a witness to her capabilities and versatility.
Hon’ble Chancellor, Prof. Syed Waseem Akhtar shared his words of wisdom and gave his blessings to all the women present there on the occasion of Women’s Day. Prof. Sabiha Hussain,Director, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies, Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi was the guest speaker, who emphasized on the fact that men must be included and engaged in strengthening women in their lives.

Women should be provided equal opportunity in leadership roles as well, which is still not a common phenomenon in our society. Statistics show that the number of women in top positions in India is still very low. It is the duty of all of us, irrespective of gender, to take initiative to bring more women leaders in all spheres of society. Further, Dr. Zeba Aqil Professor, Department of Education, Integral University enlightened the participants about maintaining the physical and mental challenges faced by women in leadership roles. She quoted that in an analysis in the year 2020 by Mercer shows weak participation of women in top positions. She also suggested that more women will be hired if blind applications are invited. 40% of the people observed double standards against females. In the data provided by Fortune 500 only 4.1% of women become CEO.

She also suggested several ways to balance responsibilities along with maintaining physical and mental health. Dr. Nida Fatima also deliberated on the occasion of Women’s Day.

The webinar was attended by heads, deans, faculty members, and students. Dr. Alvina Farooqui was the moderator, and Prof. Iffat Zareen Ahmad, Chairperson, Women Grievance Cell delivered the welcome address.
